Your local decks contractor in Lynn

Looking for reliable decks in Lynn, Massachusetts? Waterfront Construction has served Lynn and the surrounding communities since 2018. Based right in nearby Northborough, we're a licensed, insured local team — not an out-of-town outfit — so Lynn homeowners get fast response, honest pricing, and craftsmanship that lasts.

Lynn is in Essex County, Massachusetts, established in 1629 and home to roughly 101,000 people. That makes it one of the oldest communities in the state, so the older streets carry genuine antique stock — post-and-beam frames, hand-cut joinery, plaster over lath, and additions layered on across three centuries. We know the town well — from the Diamond District, West Lynn and East Lynn to the quieter streets — and our decks crews reach Lynn quickly from nearby Northborough. It is about 45 miles from our Northborough shop — about an hour in normal traffic.

We treat your Lynn home the way we'd want our own treated: clean job sites, clear daily communication, and respect for your time and property. When the decks project wraps, the only thing we leave behind is work you'll be proud to show off.

No surprises and no runaround: you get an itemized estimate up front, a realistic schedule, and honest updates if anything changes. That's how we've earned repeat business and referrals across Lynn and the wider region.

For the full detail on how we approach this work — materials, process and what to expect — see our decks page.

Decks in Lynn — FAQs

📞 Call (508) 691-8113
Do you provide decks in Lynn, MA?+

Yes — Lynn is right in our service area. We're a Northborough-based, licensed and insured contractor (MA HIC #196540) and regularly serve Lynn homeowners across the North Shore with professional decks. Call (508) 691-8113 for a free estimate.

Which parts of Lynn do you cover?+

All of Lynn — including the Diamond District, West Lynn, East Lynn and Wyoma. No matter the neighborhood or the age of your home, we bring the same licensed, insured decks craftsmanship to every Lynn job.

How far is Waterfront Construction from Lynn, MA?+

Our shop is at 44 Bearfoot Road, Northborough, MA 01532, about 45 miles from Lynn — about an hour in normal traffic. That is close enough for us to get out for an estimate quickly, come back for a snag without making a production of it, and keep crews on your job rather than stuck on the road.

Have you worked near Lynn?+

Yes. One of our documented projects nearby is the Colonial Home Addition — Lynnfield, MA — A full home addition and exterior transformation on a classic New England home in Lynnfield. You can see the full photo album on our site, along with other the North Shore jobs. We're happy to give references closer to Lynn on request.

Which nearby communities do you also cover?+

We work throughout the North Shore from our Northborough base — including Marblehead, Swampscott, Salem, Wenham and Nahant. In total we cover 150+ towns across MetroWest, Greater Boston, the North Shore and Southern New Hampshire.

Do I need a permit for decks in Lynn, MA?+

Yes, almost certainly. Massachusetts exempts a deck only if it is under 200 sq ft, under 30 inches high, unattached to the house and not serving a required exit door — all four at once. Any deck off your back door needs a permit, and we file it for you. We file it with Lynn's building and inspectional services department as a Registered Home Improvement Contractor (MA HIC #196540).

Composite or wood — which is better?+

Composite costs more up front but needs almost no maintenance and lasts longer. Wood is budget-friendly and classic but needs periodic sealing. We help you weigh the trade-offs.

Permits in Lynn

Almost every real deck needs a building permit in Massachusetts.

780 CMR exempts a deck only if it meets ALL four conditions at once: no more than 200 sq ft, no more than 30 inches above grade at any point, not attached to the dwelling, and not serving a required exit door. A deck off your back door, or any deck attached to the house, fails that test — so plan on a permit and an inspection. We file it for you.

For decks work in the City of Lynn, the filing goes to Lynn's building and inspectional services department. As a Massachusetts Registered Home Improvement Contractor (HIC #196540) we pull the permit in our name, book the inspections and meet the inspector on site — you never have to take a day off for it. Requirements do change, so we confirm the current position with Lynn's office before any work starts.

Source: 780 CMR ch. 51 (Massachusetts Residential Code), Part 2 §105 R105.2, “Work exempt from permit”. This is general information, not a substitute for your building department's own determination.
