Kitchen Remodeling · Cambridge, MA

Your local kitchen remodeling contractor in Cambridge

Waterfront Construction has been building and remodelling for Cambridge and the rest of Greater Boston since 2018. We are licensed, insured, and deliberately small: enough crew to keep a schedule, few enough jobs at once that your kitchen remodeling project never becomes the one that gets squeezed.

Cambridge is in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, established in 1636 and home to roughly 118,000 people. That makes it one of the oldest communities in the state, so the older streets carry genuine antique stock — post-and-beam frames, hand-cut joinery, plaster over lath, and additions layered on across three centuries. We know the town well — from Harvard Square, Porter Square and Kendall Square to the quieter streets — and our kitchen remodeling crews reach Cambridge quickly from nearby Northborough. It is about 35 miles from our Northborough shop — about 45 minutes to an hour in normal traffic.

New England weather is hard on homes, and Cambridge is no exception — freeze-thaw cycles, heavy snow and humid summers all take a toll. We approach kitchen remodeling with materials and methods chosen to stand up to it, so your investment keeps looking good and performing well season after season.

The job isn't finished when the work is. We haul away the debris, protect and clean everything we touched, and walk the whole kitchen remodeling project with you in Cambridge before we ask for the final payment.

For the full detail on how we approach this work — materials, process and what to expect — see our kitchen remodeling page.

Kitchen Remodeling in Cambridge — FAQs

📞 Call (508) 691-8113
Do you provide kitchen remodeling in Cambridge, MA?+

Yes — Cambridge is right in our service area. We're a Northborough-based, licensed and insured contractor (MA HIC #196540) and regularly serve Cambridge homeowners across Greater Boston with professional kitchen remodeling. Call (508) 691-8113 for a free estimate.

Which parts of Cambridge do you cover?+

All of Cambridge — including Harvard Square, Porter Square, Kendall Square and Central Square. No matter the neighborhood or the age of your home, we bring the same licensed, insured kitchen remodeling craftsmanship to every Cambridge job.

How far is Waterfront Construction from Cambridge, MA?+

Our shop is at 44 Bearfoot Road, Northborough, MA 01532, about 35 miles from Cambridge — about 45 minutes to an hour in normal traffic. That is close enough for us to get out for an estimate quickly, come back for a snag without making a production of it, and keep crews on your job rather than stuck on the road.

Have you worked near Cambridge?+

Yes. One of our documented projects nearby is the Front Porch & Home Addition — Needham, MA — A front porch addition in Needham — documented step by step, from the original small entry through foundation, framing, and the new full-width farmer's porch. You can see the full photo album on our site, along with other Greater Boston jobs. We're happy to give references closer to Cambridge on request.

Which nearby communities do you also cover?+

We work throughout Greater Boston from our Northborough base — including Winchester, Somerville, Burlington, Wilmington and Dedham. In total we cover 150+ towns across MetroWest, Greater Boston, the North Shore and Southern New Hampshire.

Do I need a permit for kitchen remodeling in Cambridge, MA?+

Partly. Cabinets, counters and tile are exempt finish work, but the plumbing, electrical and gas behind them each need their own permit, and moving a wall needs a building permit. We pull whichever your job requires. We file it with Cambridge's building and inspectional services department as a Registered Home Improvement Contractor (MA HIC #196540).

How much does a kitchen remodel cost in Massachusetts?+

It depends on size, materials and how much the layout changes. Relocating the sink is usually the single most expensive decision on the plan. After a visit we give you a detailed, itemised estimate rather than a lump sum.

How long is a kitchen out of action?+

Most kitchens run about 2–6 weeks of active work once materials are on site. Custom cabinetry has long lead times, so ordering early is what keeps that number honest.

Permits in Cambridge

The finishes are exempt; what is behind them usually is not.

780 CMR exempts cabinets, counter tops, tiling and similar finish work from a building permit. But a kitchen or bathroom remodel almost always triggers separate electrical, plumbing and gas permits, and moving or removing any wall needs a building permit of its own. We pull whichever apply.

For kitchen remodeling work in the City of Cambridge, the filing goes to Cambridge's building and inspectional services department. As a Massachusetts Registered Home Improvement Contractor (HIC #196540) we pull the permit in our name, book the inspections and meet the inspector on site — you never have to take a day off for it. Requirements do change, so we confirm the current position with Cambridge's office before any work starts.

Source: 780 CMR ch. 51 (Massachusetts Residential Code), Part 2 §105 R105.2, “Work exempt from permit”. This is general information, not a substitute for your building department's own determination.
