Your local decks contractor in Worcester

Every decks quote in Worcester should be comparable line by line — scope, materials, timeline, price. Ours is, deliberately, because vague quotes are where budgets go wrong. Waterfront Construction is Northborough-based, licensed (HIC #196540) and insured, and the estimate is free either way.

Worcester is in Worcester County, Massachusetts, established in 1722 and home to roughly 207,000 people. It was settled well before the Republic, which usually means a core of Federal and Greek Revival homes surrounded by later infill — plenty of hand-framed structure, and rooflines never meant to carry today's insulation. We know the town well — from the Canal District, Shrewsbury Street and Elm Park to the quieter streets — and our decks crews reach Worcester quickly from nearby Northborough. It is about 11 miles from our Northborough shop — about 20 to 30 minutes in normal traffic.

Material choice drives most of the cost difference on a decks project. Rather than quote one option, we walk Worcester homeowners through what each tier actually buys in durability, upkeep and appearance — so the budget goes where it matters to you, not where it matters to us.

Whether it's a single room or a whole-home project, we bring the same care, licensing and insurance to every Worcester job — and we don't consider it done until you're completely happy with the result.

For the full detail on how we approach this work — materials, process and what to expect — see our decks page.

Decks in Worcester — FAQs

📞 Call (508) 691-8113
Do you provide decks in Worcester, MA?+

Yes — Worcester is right in our service area. We're a Northborough-based, licensed and insured contractor (MA HIC #196540) and regularly serve Worcester homeowners across Central Massachusetts with professional decks. Call (508) 691-8113 for a free estimate.

Which parts of Worcester do you cover?+

All of Worcester — including the Canal District, Shrewsbury Street, Elm Park and Tatnuck. No matter the neighborhood or the age of your home, we bring the same licensed, insured decks craftsmanship to every Worcester job.

How far is Waterfront Construction from Worcester, MA?+

Our shop is at 44 Bearfoot Road, Northborough, MA 01532, about 11 miles from Worcester — about 20 to 30 minutes in normal traffic. That is close enough for us to get out for an estimate quickly, come back for a snag without making a production of it, and keep crews on your job rather than stuck on the road.

Have you worked near Worcester?+

Yes. One of our documented projects nearby is the Composite Pool Deck — Salem, NH — A low-maintenance gray composite deck wrapping an above-ground pool in Salem, NH — from framing through the finished, furnished deck. You can see the full photo album on our site, along with other Central Massachusetts jobs. We're happy to give references closer to Worcester on request.

Which nearby communities do you also cover?+

We work throughout Central Massachusetts from our Northborough base — including Blackstone, East Brookfield, Sturbridge, West Brookfield and Leominster. In total we cover 150+ towns across MetroWest, Greater Boston, the North Shore and Southern New Hampshire.

Do I need a permit for decks in Worcester, MA?+

Yes, almost certainly. Massachusetts exempts a deck only if it is under 200 sq ft, under 30 inches high, unattached to the house and not serving a required exit door — all four at once. Any deck off your back door needs a permit, and we file it for you. We file it with Worcester's building and inspectional services department as a Registered Home Improvement Contractor (MA HIC #196540).

Composite or wood — which is better?+

Composite costs more up front but needs almost no maintenance and lasts longer. Wood is budget-friendly and classic but needs periodic sealing. We help you weigh the trade-offs.

Permits in Worcester

Almost every real deck needs a building permit in Massachusetts.

780 CMR exempts a deck only if it meets ALL four conditions at once: no more than 200 sq ft, no more than 30 inches above grade at any point, not attached to the dwelling, and not serving a required exit door. A deck off your back door, or any deck attached to the house, fails that test — so plan on a permit and an inspection. We file it for you.

For decks work in the City of Worcester, the filing goes to Worcester's building and inspectional services department. As a Massachusetts Registered Home Improvement Contractor (HIC #196540) we pull the permit in our name, book the inspections and meet the inspector on site — you never have to take a day off for it. Requirements do change, so we confirm the current position with Worcester's office before any work starts.
