Your local decks contractor in Dover

Looking for reliable decks in Dover, Massachusetts? Waterfront Construction has served Dover and the surrounding communities since 2018. Based right in nearby Northborough, we're a licensed, insured local team — not an out-of-town outfit — so Dover homeowners get fast response, honest pricing, and craftsmanship that lasts.

Dover is in Norfolk County, Massachusetts, established in 1836 and home to roughly 5,900 people. Its growth came with the mills and the railroads, so much of the older housing is mid-1800s worker and merchant stock — balloon framing, deep sash windows, and porches that have usually been rebuilt at least once. For a contractor that makes it a small town, which usually means a mix of older centre-of-town housing and newer subdivisions on the edges. It sits in the MetroWest region. It is about 25 miles from our Northborough shop — about 30 to 40 minutes in normal traffic. Being close keeps estimates and site visits quick.

Homes around Dover range from classic New England colonials and capes to newer construction, and each one calls for a slightly different approach. We tailor every decks project to the age, style and condition of your home — never a one-size-fits-all template — so the finished work looks like it was always meant to be there.

We stand behind what we build. If something isn't right after we've gone, you call and we come back — that's the point of being licensed, insured and easy to find in Dover, rather than a number that stops answering.

Decks in Dover — FAQs

📞 Call (508) 691-8113
Do you provide decks in Dover, MA?+

Yes — Dover is right in our service area. We're a Northborough-based, licensed and insured contractor (MA HIC #196540) and regularly serve Dover homeowners across the MetroWest region with professional decks. Call (508) 691-8113 for a free estimate.

How far is Waterfront Construction from Dover, MA?+

Our shop is at 44 Bearfoot Road, Northborough, MA 01532, about 25 miles from Dover — about 30 to 40 minutes in normal traffic. That is close enough for us to get out for an estimate quickly, come back for a snag without making a production of it, and keep crews on your job rather than stuck on the road.

Have you worked near Dover?+

Yes. One of our documented projects nearby is the Commercial Interior Painting — Marlborough, MA — A dated, dark-paneled office transformed with bright interior painting — from wood paneling to a clean, modern white workspace in downtown Marlborough. You can see the full photo album on our site, along with other the MetroWest region jobs. We're happy to give references closer to Dover on request.

Which nearby communities do you also cover?+

We work throughout the MetroWest region from our Northborough base — including Hopkinton, Littleton, Holliston, Bellingham and Framingham. In total we cover 150+ towns across MetroWest, Greater Boston, the North Shore and Southern New Hampshire.

Do I need a permit for decks in Dover, MA?+

Yes, almost certainly. Massachusetts exempts a deck only if it is under 200 sq ft, under 30 inches high, unattached to the house and not serving a required exit door — all four at once. Any deck off your back door needs a permit, and we file it for you. We file it with Dover's building department as a Registered Home Improvement Contractor (MA HIC #196540).

Composite or wood — which is better?+

Composite costs more up front but needs almost no maintenance and lasts longer. Wood is budget-friendly and classic but needs periodic sealing. We help you weigh the trade-offs.

Permits in Dover

Almost every real deck needs a building permit in Massachusetts.

780 CMR exempts a deck only if it meets ALL four conditions at once: no more than 200 sq ft, no more than 30 inches above grade at any point, not attached to the dwelling, and not serving a required exit door. A deck off your back door, or any deck attached to the house, fails that test — so plan on a permit and an inspection. We file it for you.

For decks work in the Town of Dover, the filing goes to Dover's building department. As a Massachusetts Registered Home Improvement Contractor (HIC #196540) we pull the permit in our name, book the inspections and meet the inspector on site — you never have to take a day off for it. Requirements do change, so we confirm the current position with Dover's office before any work starts.

Source: 780 CMR ch. 51 (Massachusetts Residential Code), Part 2 §105 R105.2, “Work exempt from permit”. This is general information, not a substitute for your building department's own determination.
